IP Phone Service is another term for Internet Protocol Phone Service. IP phone service is often referred to as Voice over IP - which permits you to make phone calls over the internet using a broadband Internet connection instead of using your home or office analog phone line. Various IP phone services will only allow you to call others using the Voice over IP service, but others may allow users to call any telephone number whether it is local, long distance, cellular or international. While some of the services work using your computer, there are special Voice over IP phones and other services that permit you to use your regular phone via an adapter.

There are various ways to place Voice over IP Phone Service calls:

Some analog telephone adapters may require software which can be loaded into the server or main computer with a connection to the internet.
